A very warm welcome to Jonathan Aiden ShawBA (Hons) in Music from Newcastle University 2013. Jonathan is in the early stages of his career and, as well as being our Director of Music, he is Director of Music for Ashington & District Male Voice Choir; Lemington Male Voice Choir and Prudhoe Parish Children’s Choir, and is also the newly appointed organ scholar for St. John the Baptists Church in Newcastle. As well as a broader interest in musicianship, education and practical theory, arranging and composing have been part of his life since 2005. While at university he was involved with a number of ensembles, the most notable being the Gilbert and Sullivan society (NUGSS). During his studies he took on roles as both treasurer and assistant MD before principally directing ‘Yeomen of the Guard’ and an G&S’ed version of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ in 2015, including arranging the full orchestra and choir scores himself. Jonathan has had the pleasure of directing Newcastle Madrigal Choir; Abbreviation, a choir for singers from varied musical disciplines/abilities; a Northumberland Prison Choir; Barbershop quartets; and assorted ad hoc a cappella groups. Jonathan has also written music for concerts, weddings, even a vicar’s first mass, as well as performed across the country with such groups as Newcastle Cathedral Choir, Northern Sinfonia Chorus, The Singers, Flotsam, and the Swing Bridge Singers.
